About us

Volunteering New Plymouth was established in 2002.
The main purpose of Volunteering New Plymouth is to assist ‘not for profit’ community groups in recruiting and retaining volunteers and to offer ongoing support to all community organisations and their volunteers. To do this we offer our service as a contact point for all volunteers and community agencies. We provide information about opportunities for volunteering, we raise community awareness of the importance of the work that is undertaken by volunteers, we organise recognition awards, we advocate on behalf of volunteers and community organisations at a local and national level and we provide a channel where resources can be shared, particularly in the training of volunteers and their coordinators/managers. We aim to help organisations recruit and retain volunteers and we support existing volunteers through free or low-cost training in order to increase their efficiency, effectiveness and capacity.

We’re seeking enthusiastic volunteers to help with a major community event on Saturday, 28 March 2026. A variety of roles and shift times are available, and all volunteers will need to attend a Health & Safety briefing beforehand. Some roles may also require additional training. If you’re unavailable on the day but still keen to help, we also need support in the lead-up and pack-down period from 23 March to 1 April. Interested? Please get in touch. Join us and be part of something special!

Join Our On-Call Volunteer Crew

Ref: #00686

Are you keen to lend a hand but can’t commit to a regular volunteer role? We’re putting together a list of on-call volunteers who we can reach out to when events pop up throughout the year. These opportunities are usually on weekends or evenings, with short shifts of around one to two hours. You might help at community fundraisers, awareness events, or local activities that support the work we do and bring people together. Being part of our on-call team is completely flexible — we’ll get in touch when opportunities come up, and you can choose to help when it suits you. This is a great option for people who want to stay involved in their community without a regular schedule, for students looking to complete volunteer hours, or for anyone who enjoys meeting people and supporting a good cause.
